Bio:
Francisco Martínez Concha is a civil engineer from the Universidad de Chile, with a Master of Arts and a Ph.D. from the University of Leeds, England. He has been a faculty member at FCFM since 1986, holding key administrative roles such as Director of the Department of Civil Engineering, Coordinator of External Courses, and Director of Postgraduate Studies in Transport Engineering. He also served as Vice-Rector of Economic Affairs and Institutional Management at Universidad de Chile, Member of the R&D Advisory Committee, Vice President of the Institutional Project Commission, and Transversal Senator.
His research focuses on urban systems — including urban economy, transport-land use interaction, accessibility, and policy evaluation — with notable contributions such as the MUSSA land-use model (applied in Santiago, Minneapolis, Boston, Paris, Berlin, among others). He has also explored consumer rights and wealth distribution theory.
He has conducted academic visits to leading institutions including MIT, UC Davis, University of Leeds, University of Cambridge, University of Tokyo, and University of Sydney, among many others. He has participated in international research initiatives such as the Risk Habitat Megacity project (with Helmholtz Institute, Germany) and the Smart Singapore-MIT Alliance.
In 2011, he was appointed Head Professor at Universidad de Chile, and became Dean of FCFM in 2018.
