On November 28, the kick-off meeting for the "Ring-Tongji NICE 2035 Chifeng Road Organic Renewal Project" was held. Tongji University will collaborate with Yangpu District to create an urban innovation block integrating prototype innovation, creative design, AI application, IP incubation, and community life, achieving deep integration of "university campus, tech park, and public community," and setting a benchmark for future lifestyles. The first phase is scheduled to partially open around Tongji University's 119th anniversary in May next year. During the event, representatives launched the "Future Laboratory for Extreme Environment Construction"!
NICE 2035 stands for Neighborhood of Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship towards 2035, which refers to a community-oriented initiative aimed at fostering innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship with a vision toward the year 2035.

Attendees including Tongji University Party Secretary Qinghua Zheng , Yangpu District Party Secretary Kan Xue, District Chief Haiying Zhou, Academician Xilin Lu (Chairman of the Scientific Committee for ILEE, winner of the Shanghai Outstanding Science and Technology Contributor Award), Chief Planner Lou Yongqi, and others initiated the project with a push-rod ceremony.

Prof. Ying Zhou, Director of ILEE, Dean of the College of Civil Engineering, and Director of Development Planning and Discipline Construction at Tongji University, stated that the "Future Laboratory for Extreme Environment Construction" will leverage the university's multidisciplinary strengths, focusing on new scenarios like plateaus, polar regions, and extra-terrestrial environments, to advance research and application of low-carbon, smart, and resilient technologies for construction in extreme environments.

The NICE2035 Chifeng Road Organic Renewal pilot zone's future experimental field comprises three main sections: the Future Laboratory for Extreme Environment Construction, the Intelligent Construction Future Good House Experimental Field, and the Chifeng Road Future Prototype Street.

The "Future Laboratory for Extreme Environment Construction" will focus on engineering design and construction research for extreme environments, empowering Chifeng Road to become a showcase and incubation base for cutting-edge technologies, contributing to Shanghai's "Five Centers" construction and its goal of becoming a globally influential sci-tech innovation hub.
