From November 19 to 22, 2024, the 35th KKHTCNN Asian Civil Engineering Colleges and Universities Network Symposium was successfully held at Tongji University. Organized by the School of Civil Engineering, the event brought together more than 200 faculty members and students from prominent universities, including Kyoto University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Chulalongkorn University (CHU), National Taiwan University (NTU), and National University of Singapore (NUS).
Distinguished attendees included Yin Wen, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Tongji University; Prof. Zhou Ying, Dean of the School of Civil Engineering and Director of the ILEE; and Vice Deans Ruan Xin, Pan Zuanfeng, and Liu Fang.
At the opening ceremony, Yin Wen delivered a welcoming speech, emphasizing the importance of the KKHTCNN Consortium in fostering international academic collaboration. Prof. Zhou Ying highlighted the School of Civil Engineering’s achievements in teaching, research, and international cooperation, expressing the hope for further deepening partnerships among alliance universities.
The symposium featured keynote presentations by Prof. Ser-Tong Quek from the National University of Singapore and Prof. Gu Xianglin from Tongji University. They shared innovative findings, discussed the development trends in civil engineering, and engaged in interactive exchanges with attendees.
With six parallel sessions and 249 presentations, the symposium covered a wide array of topics, including structural engineering, bridge engineering, geotechnical engineering, disaster prevention in civil engineering, water conservancy engineering, transportation engineering, and emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and 3D printing. Participating faculty and students enthusiastically engaged in group reports and panel discussions, showcasing diverse academic achievements and novel research ideas from both domestic and international perspectives.
The symposium also hosted a graduate student competition among the seven member universities of the KKHTCNN Consortium, where seven students were honored with the Best Presentation Award, reflecting the academic excellence and innovative thinking fostered within the consortium.
The event marked a significant step in promoting global collaboration in civil engineering research and education while setting the stage for continued interdisciplinary advancements.
