News Announcement: Academician Lu Xilin Hosts 2024 Academic Exchange Meeting on Urban Resilience Enhancement

On the morning of September 19, 2024, the National Key Laboratory of Civil Engineering Disaster Prevention and Mitigation successfully held the 2024 Academic Exchange Meeting for Direction IV (Urban Resilience Enhancement) in the conference room of the Bridge Pavilion at Tongji University. The event was hosted by Academician Lu Xilin, Chief Scientist of the laboratory and member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. More than 30 participants, including the chief researcher, team members, postdoctoral fellows, and doctoral students, attended the meeting.

A total of six experts delivered insightful academic presentations, addressing cutting-edge scientific topics and key technological challenges. These presentations included in-depth theoretical explanations, explorations of novel methodologies and technologies, as well as experimental cases and detailed analyses of major engineering projects. The discussions provided a platform for an intense exchange of ideas, creating a dynamic and rich academic atmosphere.

Highlighted presentations included:
1.Prof. Jiang Huanjun: Research on Resilient Reinforced Concrete Seismic Structures.
2.Prof. Zhou Ying: Progress from the Phy-SeisFormer Model to SeisGPT in Earthquake Response Prediction and Resilience Evaluation for Building Clusters.
3.Assoc. Prof. Wang Xiaowei: Basic Theories and Techniques for Seismic Resilience Assessment of Beam Bridges in China.
4.Prof. Lu Wensheng: Key Technologies for Full-Life Seismic Safety and Service of Building Curtain Wall Systems.
5.Prof. Yu Jiangtao: Enhancing Urban and Rural Masonry Structures Using ECC Overlay Strengthening Techniques.
6.Assoc. Prof. Zhou Zhengzheng: Resilience Strategies for Managing Flooding in Mega-Cities under Extreme Rainstorms and Multi-Hazard Coupling.

In his closing remarks, Academician Lu Xilin congratulated the experts on their outstanding achievements and reaffirmed the laboratory’s commitment to supporting research efforts. He emphasized the importance of teamwork, encouraging members of Direction to organize research teams to tackle systemic scientific challenges and accelerate the practical implementation of technological innovations.

The meeting marked a significant step forward in advancing urban disaster prevention and resilience science, fostering collaboration, and promoting technological breakthroughs in the field.
