报告简介 (Outline): The application of seismic isolation for new buildings is quite easy and almost always possible. The real challenge of seismic isolation is protection of existing buildings, especially in countries where maintenance of old structures is an important issue. The design issues for the application of base isolation in the retrofit of existing buildings are first discussed for the two cases of reinforced concrete and masonry buildings. These refer to the positioning of the isolation devices in plan and elevation and the transferring of the vertical actions during the building phases. Then the most relevant applications in Italy for existing reinforced concrete and masonry buildings are also shown. Finally, an isolation system is presented, which was set up for cultural heritage structures but is very suitable also for industrial and high risk plants.
报告人简介 (About the Speaker) :
Paolo Clemente got his Civil Eng. Degree (summa cum laude) at Univ. Federico II of Naples, and his Ph.D. in Structural Eng. He carried out post-doctorate research at the Institute for Construction of Bridges of the Univ. Federico II of Naples, where he also collaborated for the courses of Theory and Design of Bridges and Special Structures. Now he is Research Director at ENEA. He was an adjunct professor at the University Sapienza of Rome, the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria, the University of Trento and the University of L’Aquila. He also took lessons as part of doctorate courses, masters and refresher courses for engineers. He was President of Panel 15e and Member of Panel 08 in the framework of the first Italian Research Evaluation (CIVR - VTR 2001-2003). He took part in several projects and was coordinator of EU cooperative research project proposals. He took part in several international conferences, often as invited speaker. He gave the keynote lecture on Modern Anti-Seismic Systems, at the 16th WCEE, held in Santiago, Chile, 09-13 Jan 2017. He organized several Workshops, Special Sessions in Italian and International Conferences as well as Special Issues of International and Italian Journals. He is the author of more than 330 scientific works in several fields of structural engineering.
