The second Kwang-Hua forum— Performance-based design theory and code development for civil and structural engineering, was held in the Yifu building of Siping Campus, by the State Key Laboratory of Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering and the Research Institute of Structural Engineering and Disaster Reduction of Tongji University in Oct. 10th, 2008. Nearly 40 experts from 8 countries/regions joined this forum. During this forum, the theories and applications of the performance-based design method used in various kinds of structural type such as, precast concrete structures, complex mega structure, bridges and tunnels were discussed in details. The experts also had a chance to have a tour in the campus of the Shanghai EXPO and the state key laboratory of disaster reduction in civil engineering.
In recent years, the performance-based design theory and code development in civil and structural engineering have become one of the focuses in research and engineering practice. This two-day forum was aimed at gathering the professional thoughts of international experts about this theme and accelerating the application and development of the performance-based design method in civil engineering. This conference was supported by the Kwang-Hua Education Foundation, National Natural Science Foundation of China and the State Key Laboratory of Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering.
