The first Kwang-Hua Forum
Wenchuan Earthquake and Post-quake Reconstruction

The first Kwang-Hua forum—Wenchuan Earthquake and Post-quake Reconstruction, was held by the State Key Laboratory of Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering and the Research Institute of Structural Engineering and Disaster Reduction of Tongji University in the building of the College of Civil Engineering in the Oct. 10th, 2008. This conference was supported by the Kwang-Hua Education Foundation, National Natural Science Foundation of China and the State Key Laboratory of Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering.

This two-day forum was aimed at gathering the professional thoughts of international experts to discuss the anti-seismic strategies. Nearly 50 experts from 9 countries/regions joined this forum. They mainly analyzed the geological hazards happened in the Wenchuan Earthquake and discussed the seismic hazards in the residential buildings, bridges, dams and life-line projects. They also proposed the seismic fortification criterions and suggested some strategies to enhance the capabilities of various kinds of structures for the post-quake reconstruction in the Wenchuan area. Some lessons and experiences within the existing reconstructions were concluded in the forum. Some applications of new technologies in the reconstruction projects were discussed in details in the forum.
